Commissioning a portrait of your beloved pet is a special and enduring way to celebrate the animals who have brought joy into your life. Linda Townshend’s extensive background as an illustrator and portrait artist lends itself to telling the story of the special bond between pets and their human.
The ultimate goal of the painting is to reveal the essence of your pet's personality. Good photographs are essential to capture a true likeness, but equally important are your descriptions and remembrances that will bring deep meaning and character to the work of art. Linda works with each customer to get a full understanding of what your pet is, or was, like.
Each portrait is painted in oil using the finest quality archival materials. The depth and richness of the painting is built in many layers using the old master’s technique of under-painting and glazing.
Contact Linda to discuss your painting and arrange to send photographs of your pet. You can review Photographing your Pet for tips on obtaining the optimal image of your pet. Once the photographs are reviewed, Linda will consult with you to help determine the design, feel, size and background that best suits you and your pet. Preliminary sketches will then be provided for your review.
Painting commences upon sketch approval and receipt of a 50% deposit. Upon completion delivery or shipping is arranged and the balance of payment, payable by cash or check, is due.
In general, paintings are completed within 8-12 weeks. Some factors that may affect the delivery date are the size and complexity of the painting, the drying time of the oils and the current waiting list. Please let Linda know in advance if the painting is for a special occasion.
